Routing Flashcards
Effects send
takes a copy of the signal in the channel path and
routes it to an internal auxiliary bus; bus is then routed to an output socket,
which could then feed an external effects unit
Effects return
dedicated stereo inputs that can be routed
to the mix bus; provide a very quick and easy way to blend an effect return into the mix
Patch cord
relatively short audio cable with connectors on each end used for interconnecting various devices where the configuration must be changed from time to time
patch bay
group of connectors on a panel where patch cords are interconnected in various configurations to route audio signals
Effects loop
series of audio effects units, connected between two points of a signal path; accesses effects send and return
Bypass
allowing a signal to pass through a device without affecting (processing) the signal; is still affected by input buffers, which can degrade the signal
Hard bypass (true bypass)
allows the signal to effectively be hardwired to the output when the effect isn’t engaged
Matrix
enables you to adjust your main mix and provides flexibility for different purposes such as custom mixes and sound routing
Outboard
any audio equipment that is not contained within another device
Plugin
piece of software designed for a specific audio task and designed to work from within another piece of software
