Influence Actuated Mines
Acoustic
Magnetic
Pressure
Mechanical Minesweeping
tether between two boats cutting lines tethering mine to the sea floor
Mine Threat Warning Yellow
General Call, “Assume the Second Degree of Mine Warfare Readiness. Mine Detection Team close-up. Assume the Sonar Quiet State” (repeated)
Mine Threat warning Red
Ship will be brought to Action Stations. If the threat is suspected to be acoustic, amplify the pipe to include “Assume Ultra Quiet State”; otherwise amplify with “Assume Sonar Quiet State”
assume Quiet State
There will be certain engineering restrictions laid out in the Ship’s Quiet Running Bill. This will inform the Engineering Dept. to switch to the quietest engine/motor available, and dependant on the quiet state, switch off some services.
The MCR will report to you when they’ve made their engineering changes (can take up to 30 minutes) and the POOW will confirm that signs have been switched. Everyone off-watch goes to their rack and stays there
CBRNO is the
XO
Citadel
positive pressure, filtered air, and live in CBRN area enviro
CBRN Fitted System

Ops Green
Yellow
Red
green - weapons down
yellow - weapons on safe - our ship is at boarding stations until lowered to green
red - guns up, doesnt happen
Boarding Stations as bridge team
bridge team / .50 cal crew

NIXIE
Towed acoustic torpedo decoy system. Active electronic signal to be generated as an acoustic signal that jams, decoys or confuses the torpedo. Codename FANFARE
Codename FANFARE
the NIXIE acoustic array
CANTASS
CANTASS: Canadian Towed Array Sonar System
Low range, low frequency passive towed line array sensor
Types of torpedo on Sea King:
Up to 2 Mk 46 mod 5 Torpedo. Uses acoustic homing
Factors for sound velocity: Increases with: (3)
depth, temperature, salinity -
Most useful to estimate is temperature, it is measured using BATHY.
SUB : SSK:
Diesel/Electric Conventional Submarine - stealthy, slow speed, defensive platform, limited range and endurance
SUB : SSN:
Attack Submarine, Nuclear Powered - long range, high speed attack submarine
SUB : SSGN:
Attack Submarine, Guided Missile, Nuclear Powered - large amounts of vertical launch cruise missiles (SLCM)
SUB : SSBN:
Submarine, Ballistic Missile, Nuclear Powered - launching ICBMs, nuclear strategic deterrent submarine.
SUB : SSM:
Diesel/Electric Midget Submarine - mostly for ISR (intelligence surveillance recon) and Special Forces insertion, limited ASuW, predominantly littoral
SUB : SSP:
Diesel/Electric Conventional Submarine with AIP - Air Independent Propulsion assisted, can charge batteries while submerged, great range and endurance
River City States - information going off a ship - 4 River City States
RC4 - Normal ops (least restrictive)
RC3 - Restricted bandwidth - considered for bandwidth requirements (video, large files, etc.), includes discontinuation of DWAN web browsing, unclass emails - limited duration
RC2 - Restricted access - task group contingency planning and ops, opposed MIO ops and high visibility/threat area port visits
RC1 - Most restrictive - hostilities, mass casualties, missing vessel or craft, MOB, fires, delicate situations that could result in international incident
Capabilities and limitations of MPA (Aurora)
Sensors:
Visual sensor suite for long-range ID
ISAR: Inverse synthetic aperture radar, gives a profile of the contact which allows the MPA to identify the class of the vessel
B-SCAN: Gives the length of the vessel
Can carry weapons such as harpoons
Capabilities for ASW
Visually (feathers)
Sonobuoys
MAD (Magnetic Anomaly Detector)
Sub threat warnings
Red:
Red: Attack imminent or underway
Sub threat warnings - Yellow
Yellow: Attack is probable
Sub threat warnings - White
White: Attack not probable
