What is rosacea?
Persistent facial eruption of unknown cause
What is rosacea?
Inflammatory condition which predominantly affects the face
Who is most commonly affected?
Middle aged females
Commonly affected areas?
Face: nose, chin, cheeks, forehead
What causes it?
Unknown.
Possibly aetiology is demodex mite
Exacerbating factors
Sunlight
Spicy food
Stress
Alcohol
Pathogenesis
Patchy inflammation with plasma cells
Morphology
Erythema Telangectasia Papules Pustules Thickening of the skin NO comedones (this is how we distinguish it from acne)
Clinical presentation
Facial flushing Enlarged nose (rhinophyma)
Management
Topical - metronidazole, ivermectin
Oral - tetracycline, isotretinoin
AVOID TOPICAL STEROIDS
