What is Rosacea?
Inflammatory skin condition
Is rosacea acute or chronic?
Chronic
What are some signs and symptoms of rosacea?
-Often begins with an episode of flushing where the skin turns red for a short period of time
-Burning
-Stinging
-Permanent redness
-Spots (Papules and pustules)
-Small blood vessels in skin becomin visible
What part of the body does rosacea mainly affect?
The face
What are some causes of rosacea?
The exact causes are unknown however some factors which have been suggested are:
-Abnormalities in blood vessels of the face
-Reaction to microscopic mite commonly found on face
What are some trigger factors of rosacea?
-Exposure to sunlight
-Stress
-Strenuous exercise
-Hot or cold water
-Hot drinks
-Alchohol
-Caffeine
-Spicy foods
What should be done to treat rosacea?
No current cure, but treatment can help control symptoms
What advice should be given to a patient with rosacea?
-Avoid known triggers
-Use creams and gels
-Consider taking oral antibiotics
