Rom - Lesson 16 Flashcards

1
Q

Some believe that Romans 7:7-8:17 is connected to Rom 7:6. Give a rationale for this.

A

7.6: But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

  1. It’s not an equal struggle - H.S. will win
  2. Romans 7:14-25 naturally leads to Romans 8
  3. It’s a struggle with sin but we will continue in Sanctification even as we loose a battle to sin occasionally.

Q

Use any verse in Romans 6-8 to prove that sanctification is a necessary consequence of justification.

A

One’s justification results in sanctification

Q

Is a Christian equally controlled by sarx and the Holy Spirit? Give a rationale for your answer.

A

Romans 8:9-11, a glorious proclamation
* You are not in sarx but in the Holy Spirit!
* Further, sarx and the Holy Spirit are opposing but non-equal forces acting on you. You are in principle a Holy Spirit person, not a sarx person
* Romans 7:14 (the struggle with sin) is balanced by Rom 8:1-11: although sarx exists due to the present evil age, it is not the ultimate controlling factor for the Christian
