Results and Conclusion

A

Tryptophan rated more intimate than placebo.

Serotonin plays a role in how we judge emotional closeness of people’s relationship.

People with depression have low serotonin which could reflect how they perceive relationships, including their own. This may explain why depressed people report feeling lonely and isolated.
