Over arching principle of urgent duty driving
Public and Police safety takes precedence over the necessity to undertake urgent duty driving.
When is a tactical approach allowed/needed?
Approaching serious crime in progress

Obtaining evidence of speeding when driving not dangerous
Use TENR to ensure, approach must be proportionate to incident. If neither lights nor sirens used, no defence for proceeding through intersection.
Purpose of fleeing driver policy
Guide staff decision making around signalling a driver to stop, and in event of fleeing driver, how to achieve the safest possible outcomes.
Safety is paramount consideration.
Role of supervisor in pursuit
Oversight
Support to staff and pursuit controller.
TENR assessments continuously
Direct abandonment if risk of harm outweighs initial threat of vehicle and occupants.
Supervisor role after pursuit (5 of)
Hot debriefs with Comms and District staff
Notification complete by end of shift by driver or someone else if they are unable
Reviews within 5 days
Health and safety reports as required
Investigation initiated to ID driver and hold to account

What do you need to do to ensure covered everything off when in fresh pursuit?
Identify self and state that power of entry is exercised under section 119 of LTA 1998

Danger to member of pub exists or reas expected
Offence punishable by 10 years imprisonment has been committed at or near a place
