RMH Flashcards
Difference in a continuous or categorical/discrete variable?
Continuous is a variable that can have a decimal or multiple options, e.g. weight
Discrete is a variable with only one option e.g. male/female
What’s a histogram useful for?
Spotting outlier or potential errors
Visualising the distribution
On a histogram how could you tell if data was skewed?
Bell shaped (rise in the middle) = normal
A ‘tail’ skewed either positively or negatively, positive if peak on the right.
When would you use the mean in data?
Normally distributed variables
What is the standard deviation?
Average distance from the mean
When would you use interquartile range?
What would it tell you?
In skewed data
Would tell you the variability
