a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well being in relation to sexuality

what are examples of high risk sexual behaviour?
-unprotected intercourse without male or female use, except in a long term relationship
-unprotected mouth to genital contact except in a long term relationship
-early sexual activity esp before age 18
-having multiple sex partners
-having a high risk partner eg one who has multiple sex partners etc
what % of pregnancies internationally are unplanned and / or terminated?
unplanned - 38%
terminated - 22%
what is a crisis pregnancy?
if pregnancy is unwanted at time of pregnancy or becomes unwanted during pregnancy
in Ireland what % of pregnancies are classified as a pregnancy crisis?

what are the consequences of pregnancy for adolescents
- leading cause of death for young women aged 15-19 world wide
-twice as likely to die in childbirth as those in their 20s
-greater risk of obstructed labor, pregnancy induced hypertension etc
-more unsafe abortions
what is the single most common social obstacle to interpersonal and public health discourse about sexual health?
a reluctance to explicitly discuss sex
apply the health belief model to promote sexual health
-susceptibility - promote awareness that the person is susceptible to risks
-severity - seriousness of unwanted pregnancy, HIV or chlamydia
-action - condoms = safer sex
-barriers - make contraception available, overcome stigma, planning the smart choice
what is the PLISSIT model of addressing sexual functioning in clinical practice?
-permission - giving patients permission to raise sexual issues
-limited information - giving patients limited info about sexual side effects of treatments
-specific suggestions - making “ “ based on a full evaluation of presenting problems
-intensive therapy - referral to intensive therapy (includes psychological interventions, sex therapy) etc
what are the core elements of sexual health from a public health perspective ?
-STIs including HIV and reproductive tract infections
-unintended pregnancy and safe abortions
