Subjective measurement refers to the assessment or evaluation of a particular phenomenon or variable based on personal opinions, perceptions, or interpretations rather than objective, tangible criteria.
eg patient rating scales - PROMS
what are the strengths and weaknesses of objective measuring?
-have higher reliability
-may not account for what patients think is important
-cannot measure all issues objectively
what are the strengths and weaknesses of subjective measures?
-can have lower reliability
-the only way to measure some important clinical aspects
-more prone to reporting biases
-considered less scientific / accurate
