Habitat
OBLIGATE CELL PARASITES
Arthropod vectors
Small rodents
Morphology
Non motile, small coccoid rods

Difficult , Giemsa , köster , stamp
Culture
Living cells, embryonated eggs , cell cultures , animals
Cannot produce NAD , CoA itself
Genera
Rickettsia , coxiella : all cell type
Neorickettsia , Ehrlicha ; lymphoid + endothelial cells
Anaplasma; ON erythrocyte , in lymphoid.
Rickettsia
Rodents, arthropods
Giemsa
1. R. Prowazekii: epidemic typhus fever (lice) rush (defecation>scratching> blood stream
2. R. Rickettsi: Rocky mountain disease (ticks)
3. Sibirica: North Asian tick brome rickettsiosis
Coxiella
V Good resistance , embryonated egg , not by tick but spores in aerosol
C. Brunetti: cattle,sheep,goat- Q fever- pneumonia , fever, hepatitis, no rash
Bartonella
Not from rickettsiacaea, but same topic as coxiella
Slightly curved rod, BLOOD agar (3-4w)
B. Henselae: cat scratch disease - ulcer, fever, headache , enlarged LN
Ehrlichia
Coccoid , CANNOT be cultured in embryonated egg
Tissue culture
