Sagital/ Parasagital Plane
Divides body into left and right
Coronal/ Frontal
Divides body into anterior and posterior
Transverse/ Horizontal
Divides body into superior and inferior
Ventral/Anterior

more internal
Standard Anatomical Position (SAP)
- Upright
- Head forward
- Arms at side
- Palms foward
- Feet flat
Medical Imaging
Purpose: Allows visualization of internal structures without surgery
Common Types:
- Radiography (xray)
- Sonography (ultra sound)
- Computed Tomography (CT)
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Radiography
-Uses: Identify fractures, mammograms, chest exams
-Pros: Quick and inexpensive
-Cons: flat, lots of radiation
White=bone Black=air
Sonography
- Uses: see fetus, organs and soft tissue
- Pros: inexpensive, portable, and radiation free
- Cons: Low resolution
Computed Tomography
- Uses: hard and soft tissue, bony defects, tumors, aneurysms and cerebral hemorrhages
- Pros: Good resolution
- Cons: lots of radiation and slow
Magnetic Resonance Imaging
- Uses: soft tissue and tumors
- Pros: High resolution and no radiation
- Cons: Expensive, slow and huge magnet
4 Types of Tissues
- Epithelia
- Connective
- Muscle
- Neural
Epithelia Tissue
Overview: layers of cells cover body or line body cavity
Connective Tissue
Overview: provides support, transports materials, and stores energy
Muscle Tissue
Overviews: Contract to produce movement
Neural Tissue
Overviews: Conduct nerve impulses
