Resultant Forces Flashcards
Name the forces acting on a moving object
Weight
Thrust
Friction
Air resistance
Reaction force
What is weight
The force of gravity on a mass
What is friction
force between two surfaces that are sliding, or trying to slide, across each other.
What is thrust
The force causing an object to move
What is air resistance
a type of friction that slows the motion of an object.
What is reaction force
A force due to the contact of 2 objects and stops them going through each other
What is upthrust
The force that keeps things upwards in a liquid
What is a resultant force
A single force that has the same effect as all of the other forces acting on an object
(The overall force)
How to calculate the resultsnt force
Subtracting the smaller magnitude by the larger
What is a balanced force
Where there are equal forces acting apon an object, in which either the object will stay stationary, or move at a consistant same speed and same direction
What is an unbalanaced force
When there are unequal forces acting apon an object, causing a motion
What is newtons first law
If the resultant force acting on an object is zero, all forces are balanced
What may happen in an unbalanced force to the object
The speed may increase or decrease, the direction of motion may change
What are the 2 scenarios in which the resultant force is zero
It stays at a constant speed and neither increases or decreases, or dose not move at all
What isa a parralelogram
A simple 4 sided shape (quadrilateral) with 2 pairs of parralel sides. Opposite facing sides are of equal length and angle
