P9.2 Velocity And Acceleration Flashcards
Difference between distance travelled and displacement
Distance travelled - scalar
Displacement - vector
Difference between speed and velocity
Speed is the rate of change of distance
Velocity is speed in a given direction
What is acceleration
The change of velocity per second = m/s^2
How do you work out acceleration
Acceleration (m/2^2] =
Time taken for the change (s)
Work equation for acceleration
a = v - u
——–
t
How do i work out decceleration
Same as acceleration except it is opposite (negative), or if acceleration is negative it is positive
Rearrange to find the end speed (final velocity) using the initial velocity, acceleration and time
v = at + u
On a velocity time graph how do i work out distance
Area of the shapes (say it is a triangle and rectangle shown together) and then add them up
Work out final velocity again but without time and with displacement (s)
v2 = u2 + 2as
Rearrange the equation v2 = u2 + 2as where s is the subject
s = v2-u2
