Restorative - Outcome 7 Flashcards
Cavity Varnish is…
Is a thin liquid consisting of copal resin.
Cavity Varnish may be dissolved in..
in an organic solvent, such as chloroform or ether.
Cavity Varnish is placed..
over the entire internal surface of the cavity prepartion before the restorative material is placed.
Cavity varnish can seal…
dentinal tubules, reduce microleakage around a restoration, and act as a barrier to protect the tooth from highly acidic types of cement such as zinc phosphate.
Indications for Cavity Varnish
When placing a non-bonded amalgam restoration, cavity varnish may be placed into the cavity preparation. The solvent evaporates, leaving the resin as a thin film to seal the dentinal tubules, reducing leaking around the restoration and acting as a barrier to protect the tooth from irritants in types of cement.
Contraindications for Cavity Varnish
Cavity varnish interferes ith the bonding and setting of composite and glass ionomer cement resotrations and therefore cannot be used under these restorations.
