Burs:
1. Straight Fissure Crosscut Bur - used to open up tooth for cavity prep
2. Round Bur - Latch Grip - help remove decay & open up, complete prep
3. Inverted Cone - Latch Grip - to create retention
Hand Cutting:
4. Spoon Excavator - remove carious dentin
5. Angle Former - accentuate line & point angles in internal
6. Mesial Margin Trimmer / Distal Margin Trimmer - create bevels on cervical third
Straight Chisel
Function: To plane and cleave enamel in an anterior cavity preparation
Characteristics:
Used with a push motion
Single-Bevel cutting edge
Single or Double ended
Enamel Hatchet
Function:
-To cut, clean, and smooth walls in a cavity preparation
-To remove enamel not supported by dentin
Characteristics:
-Used with push motion
-Cutting edge on same plane as handle
-Single or double ended
Gingival Margin Trimmer - Mesial
Function: To create bevels on the mesial cervical margin of a cavity preparation
Characteristics:
-Curved blade - cutting edge at angle to blade
-Double ended - one end curves to the right; the other to the left
