What is restorative justice?
A
Focuses on the rehabilitation of offfenders through reconcilliation of survivors
- Enables the offender to see the impact of their crimes
- Serves to empower survivors by giving them a “voice”

What are features of restorative justice?
A
- Having a trained mediator supervising interaction
- Take place in person or via video
- Should be in a voluntary setting
- Survivor is able to confront the offender face to face and explain the effects it had
- Enables the offender to understand the impact of their actions as they must be actively engaged in the process
- The focus is on positive outcomes for both survivors or offenders
- May also be extended to include relevant community members

A
- Restitution could be financial
- Restorative justice is flexible and can be an alternative to prison
- The restorative justice Council (RJC) advocates use of restorative justice beyond crimes, e.g schools workplaces
