Respiratory System Flashcards
Slightly warms, humidifies and filters the air before it enters the respiratory tract. It is also separated into two nares that are divided by the septum
Nose
The function of Gas exchange
The respiratory system
A tube that serves as part of the respiratory and digestive tracts.
It is divided into three sections ,1.nasophayrnx, 2.oropharynx, 3.hypopharynx
Pharynx
The voice box, which contains the vocal cords and the epiglottis a fold of the connective tissue that prevents food from entering the trachea
Larynx
A tube extending from the larynx to the main bronchi formed of cartilaginous rings
Trachea
The trachea separates into two main branches known as the bronchi that conduct air into each lung.
Bronchi
Two organs responsible for gas exchange
Lungs
The bronchial tree in each lung leads to theses grape like clusters wrapped tightly in blood vessels and are composed of of thin walled epithelial tissue
Alveoli
Oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged In the lungs through- from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration
Passive diffusion
Is the substance in the blood that transports oxygen
Hemoglobin
Overall exchange of gases between the atmosphere, blood and cells
Respiration
The exchange of gases between the lungs and blood
External respiration
The exchange of gases between the blood and the cells
Internal respiration
