Respiratory System Flashcards
What is the structures of the respiratory system?
Nose and navel cavity Pharynx Trachea Bronchi Lungs Diaphragm Alveoli
Job of the respiratory system?
Move gasses into body- oxygen
Remove gasses from body- c02
Breathing is the movement of these gases.
Nose and nasals jobs?
Gases enter here.
Gases are warmed (when air is cold)
Trap air large particles with hair and mucus
Smell receptors.
What is the next system down and it’s job? (Phary)
Pharynx.
Throat connecting to mouth and nose. The epiglottis (small flap of skin) covers trachea while swallowing.
Next system down and it’s jobs? (Trach)
Trachea- wind pipe that cleans air.
What are the branching tubes down to the lungs?
Bronchi , deliver air.
Lungs
Contain bronchi, which deliver air further Down to….
Alveoli
Tiny air sacs found found at the end of bronchi. Surrounded by capillaries. GAS EXCHANGE happens here.
What is breathing in and out contain of!
Breathing In:
- Diaphragm contracts and moves DOWN. (To allow max air)
- rib muscles move out.
- air pressure inside less than aide pressure outside and rushing in.
Breathing out: opposite of above.
