Difestive System Flashcards
Parts and jobs of digestive system- 9
ALIMENTARY CANAL: food tube and it’s process through the anus. Only organs food move through:
Helper organs: secret chemicals that help with chemical digestion of food.
Mouth: chemical and mechanical digestion.
Esophagus: movement. (Of food)
Stomach: chemical digestion and absorption with chemicals and acids.
Small intestine: chemical digestion and absorption.
Large intestine: absorption of specifically h20.
Rectum: waste prepared elimination.
Villi: increase surface area in small intestine as finger like structures with more fingers.
What is the job of the digestive system?
DIGESTION: break down food both mechanically (chew, gum, stomach, tongue) or chemically (broken down into sugars)
ABORPSPTION: getting the food and the stomach mechanically grinds food into blood.
ELIMINATION: then get rid of food wastes and unused materials.
MOVEMENT: food going through the alimentary canal.m
What is the small intestine?
- duodenum or chemicals from the liver and pancreas enter here.
- jejunom and Ileum absorbing of nutrients.
- contains villi, allowing for greater surface area.
What is the large intestine?
Also called the colon.
- absorption of water!
- vitamin k is made by bacteria in colon.
- movement through the slim
What are helper organs?
Liver- break down and build up molecules.
Stores iron, destroys old cells and poison, makes bile.
Gall bladder- stores and concentrates bile.
Pancreas- makes enzymes for chemical digestion.
