Respiratory Distress Protocol Flashcards
Dosage of albuterol for respiratory distress.
2.5 mg in 3 mL NS
Dosage of ipratropium for respiratory distress
0.5 mg
Class of albuterol
sympathomimetic. Acts on alpha (vasoconstriction), beta-1 (increased heart rate/contractility), and beta-2 receptors (bronchodilation).
Class of ipratropium
Anti-cholinergic. Acts on PNS to decrease secretions and bronchodilate.*
Specifically, it blocks m-ACh-R, increasing intracellular cGMP. This prevents Ca2+ influx, and therefore, prevents bronchiolar smooth muscle contraction.
Status asthmaticus treatment
0.3 mg IM 1:1000 epinpehrine
Contraindications for IM epi
Pt > 40 YO, irregular heart rate, HR > 150 BPM, HTN/Heart disease
Contact Med Control
Contraindications for CPAP
- SBP less than 90 mmHg
- Altered mental status
- Vomiting
- a penetrating chest trauma
Steroid for respiratory distress
Methylprednisolone 125 mg IV
Signs of CHF/Pulmonary Edema
- Frothy sputum
- Wet lung sounds
- Pedal edema
- distention of JVD
Tx of suspected CHF also contains what vasoactive drug?
0.4 mg SL nitroglycerin (reduces pre-load through venodilation, and therefore reduces workload of heart)
