Respiratory and Circulatory System Flashcards
Main entrance and exit of air
Nose/Mouth
Lined with cilia and secretes mucus to further filter the air. Air is warmed and moistened
Nasal Cavity
Common passageway for both food and air
Pharynx
Epiglottis and vocal cords. Voicebox
Larynx
With cartilage, cilia and mucus. Windpipe
Trachea
Main passageway to the lungs
Bronchi
Ensure that incoming air is supplied to each alveolus
Bronchioles
Surrounded by tiny blood vessels called capillaries. Where actual exchange of gases takes place
Alveoli
What are the main parts of the Circulatory System
-Heart
-Blood Vessels
-Blood
Divides the left and right sides of the heart
Septum
Has four chambers. Left side pumps oxygenated blood to the body. Right side of the heart pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs where oxygen can be absorbed by hemoglobin-carrying red blood cells
Heart
Is a protein in your red blood cells that carries oxygen to your body’s organs and tissues and transports carbon dioxide from your organs and tissues back to your lungs.
Hemoglobin
Transports blood throughout the body
Blood Vessels
Vessels that carry oxygen rich blood away from the heart
Arteries
Tiny vessels only one cell thick. Bring oxygen and nutrients to the cells. Remove waste products.
Capillaries
