RESPIRATORY: Flashcards
The respiratory system includes
nasal, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, lungs, alveoli, diaphragm
function of the system
to supply the body with oxygen and dispose of carbon dioxide
Respiratory involves the two processes
pulmonary ventilation(inspiration/expiration) and external respiration (oxygen diffuses from lungs to capillary/alveoli)
Circulatory involves the two processes:
transport of respiratory gases ( lungs to tissue) and internal respiration (blood to tissue)
refers to the exchange of gases between the atmosphere and the blood through the alveoli
external respiration
refers to the exchange of gases between the blood and the body cells
internal respiration
What are the respiratory tubules lined with that helps aid with trapping the debris and keeping foreign substances from entering the lungs?
cilia
What happens to most of the carbon dioxide?
it is converted to bicarbonate ions by carbonic anhydrase
_________ _________ is a regulator of blood pH.
carbon dioxide
