MUSCLE: Flashcards
Muscle contraction results from
the sliding together of actin and myosin filaments
Each muscle consist of
myofibrils > sarcomeres
What must be present for a muscle cell to contract?
atp and calcium
Steps in E-C coupling
action potential propagates down from sarcolemma to the T-tubules
releasing calcium ions, which binds to troponin, tropomyosin unblocks
actin and myosin from cross bridges
the muscle that executes a given movement is
the prime mover
the muscles that produces the opposite movement
the antagonist
work in cooperation with the prime mover
synergist
reduce the angle at the joint
flexors
increase the angle at the joint
extensors
draw a limb away from the midline
abductors
return the limb back toward the body
adductors
