What are the drugs used for asthma?
A
B2 antagonist - Short acting- Salbutamol. 3-4 times a day. Relaxing muscles make it easier to breathe. May cause headaches and tachycardia.
B2 antagonists- long-acting; salmeterol. Bronchodilator. increases blood flow to bronchi. May be combined with corticosteroids, and cause headaches and hyperkalemia.
Corticosteroids - reduce inflammation.
Leukotriene receptor inhibitors- May be added to steroids. Given for exercise-induced asthma, or Asprin inducted. Reduces the production of sputum. It May cause GIT upset and headaches.
