Respiration Flashcards
Why are the walls of the alveoli only one cell thick
Walls of the alveoli and capillary are only one cell thick and share the same membrane making it easier for the process of diffusion
Through what process does the oxygen transport from the alveoli into the capillaries
Diffusion
Why does the oxygen move from the alveoli into the capillaries?
Within the alveolus, there is a high oxygen concentration and a low carbon dioxide concentration. In the capillaries there is a high concentration of carbon dioxide and a low concentration of oxygen therefore through the process of diffusion the oxygen from the alveoli diffuses into the capillaries oxygenating the red blood cells and the carbon dioxide diffuses into the alveoli.
