Plant Transport Flashcards
What do xylem vessels do?
Xylem vessels- they are vessels that transport water only up the cells toward the leaves through the stem and roots. They are long tubes that are stacked together to provide support and are found in the centre of a plant stems or in tree trunks. They are also much thicker than the phloem vessels.
What do phloem vessels do?
Phloem vessels- they are vessels that carry glucose and other sugars up and down the plant, they carry the food substance that is made in the leaf through photosynthesis all the way down to the roots to give the plant a supply of food. These vessels are found near to the outside of the tree trunk or a stem and it is a thinner tube than the xylem
What is the process of transpiration
Transpiration is the process where plants absorb water through the roots and then give off water vapor through pores in their leaves.
