Diffusion Flashcards
What is diffusion
Diffusion is the movement of particles from a highly concentrated are to a lower concentrated are down a concentration gradient
How does the concentration gradient increase the rate of diffusion
The concentration gradient effects the rate of diffusion because the more particles in one side of the exchange surface the more the particles hit against each other resulting in them becoming faster and more will pass the exchange surface in a smaller period of time, this also means the less particles in one side of the exchange surface the slower the rate of diffusion will be
How does the temperature affect the rate of diffusion
The rate of diffusion increases when the temperature rises because when a substance is heated the particles within the substance start to rapidly fire around the substance resulting in more of the particles hitting against the boundaries and entering through them which then speeds up the rate of diffusion.
