Respiration Flashcards
Where does glycolysis happen
Cytoplasm
First stage of glycolysis
Glucose + ATP makes ADP and GlucoseP
Second stage of glycolysis
GlucoseP + ATP makes hexosebiphosphate(6C)
Third step of glycolysis
Hexosebiphosphate splits into two triosephosphate (3C)
Forth stage of glycolysis
2x triosephosphate - 4H+ (to NAD) - 4 P makes
2 reduces NAD, 4 ATP and 2 pyruvate (3C)
Net gain of glycolysis
2 ATP used, 4 produced
2 reduced NAD produced
Where does the link reaction take place
Cytoplasm
First stage link reaction
Pyruvate - 2H* - C (by pyruvate decarboxylase)
Produces acetyl
Second step link reaction
Acetyl + CoA into acetyl CoA transported into matrix of mitochondria
Where does Krebs cycle occur
Matrix of mitochondria
First step crews cycle
Acetyl coA into Acetyl
Second stage Krebs cycle
Acetyl (2C + Oxaloacetate (4C)
Makes citrate
Third step Krebs cycle
Citrate - 2H* - CO2
Makes reduced NADH and 5C Compound
Forth step Krebs cycle
5C compound - 2H* -CO2
Makes 4C compound
Fifth step Krebs cycle
4C compound - P
Makes ATP and 4C compound
