respiration Flashcards
what is respiration?
Releasing energy from the breakdown of glucose
What is aerobic respiration equation?
glucose plus oxygen equals carbon dioxide plus water
(reverse of photosynthesis equation)
What is the equation for anaerobic respiration?
glucose to lactic acid
(Lactic acid is a waste product)
What is the equation for anaerobic respiration in plants?
glucose to ethanol + carbon dioxide
what is the first two steps experiment for respiration?
Add soda lime granules into a tube. This absorbs CO2 produced by animal.
Place a ball of cotton wool over the soil lime at the animal and cover with a bung
what are the next two steps when doing the experiment for respiration?
Leave in water for five minutes
Pour a coloured liquid into a beaker
what are the last two steps of the experiment of respiration?
Put beaker at the end of capillary tube, measure how much the lipid moved up in five minutes
what is used to measure rate of respiration and what is the point of the experiment
respirometer which helps see how respiration is affected by temperature
Equation for cardiac output
Heart rate X stroke volume
what is heart rate?
Amount of times heartbeats in a minute
what is stroke volume?
Amount of blood pumped out the left ventricle per beat or contraction
