diffusion Flashcards
how does concentration affect diffusion?
The bigger difference between concentration, the faster diffusion
What factors affect diffusion?
Concentration, distance, and surface area
how does distance affect the rate of diffusion?
They shared the distance, the quicker than diffusion
what happens when there is all largest surface area during diffusion?
There is a higher rate of diffusion, as there is more space for particles to pass through
how is oxygen moved into the blood?
Oxygen diffuse out of air into the alveoli and it will move down the concentration gradient into the blood
How is carbon dioxide removed blood?
carbon dioxide diffuses from the high concentration of the blood into the low concentration of the alveoli, which is then breathed out
how is the alveoli adapted for its job and what is the job?
it is where gaseous exchange occurs
The walls of the alveoli have moist lining, which increases the rate of diffusion by dissolving gases
other than moist lining, what adaptations do alveoli have
Surrounded by capillaries which shortens the distance for diffusion, which increases the rate of effusion large surface area so diffusion happens efficiently
what is ficks law
rate of diffusion proportional to 1/thickness of membrane
rate of diffusion is proportional to surface area X conc difference/thickness of membrane
