osmoregulation Flashcards
What is Osmo regulation?
regulating water content in the body
What happens if there’s an increased concentration of water in the blood?
water diffuses into body cells, which may cause them to burst
what happens when the water concentration in the blood is low?
Water moves out of body cells through diffusion which may cause cells to shrink
what do the kidneys help with?
Regulating dissolved ions in water filters, water and help remove urea from blood
what do kidneys contain that help with filtration and what happens?
Kidneys contain nephron, which have tubules Which absorb water glucose and urea this is called filtration
what happens as it continues to pass through the tubules
The body absorbs all the glucose, some water, and no urea is absorbed. This is called selective reabsorption.
What is the emanation? Where does it occur?
deamination is when excess amino acids are converted into carbohydrates and fats the storage. This happens and the liver
what do tubules absorb
Anything small
water, glucose, amino acids, urea
where does the blood leave through in the kidneys?
It leaves through the renal beins
where does the blood go into the kidney?
It goes into the kidney through the renal artery
what happens after the blood goes into the kidney?
The kidney absorbs urine and passes it down to the ureters which which is then stored in the bladder
what happens When the body is alerted that water levels are low
If water level is too low, the hypothalamus send a signal to the pituitary gland to release ADH, the kidneys to absorb more water, so less urine is produced
