16
Q

Why do we repeat the steps when using a transects to calculate distribution?

A

Allows data to representative of the area

17
Q

Four parts of the food chain

A

Producer
Primary consumer
Secondary consumer
Tertiary consumer

18
Q

What are producers always

A

A photo synthetic organism

19
Q

What are most primary consumers?

A

Herbivores

20
Q

what are most tertiary consumers

A

Carnivores

21
Q

What happens as energy is passed down the chain

A

Most of it is lost

22
Q

What are trophic levels?

A

Different levels of food chain

23
Q

What always is trophic level one?

A

producers

24
Q

why are there normally only 4 to 5 trophic levels?

A

Not enough energy to sustain organisms in higher trophic levels

25
Q

Examples of decomposers

A

Fungi/bacteria

26
Q

example of a detrivore

A

 worm

27
Q

what do decomposers and detrivores do in the environment?

A

decompose, dead plants and animal matter into the environment

28
Q

why are decomposers and detritivores important to the environment

A

they recycle nutrients from animal and plants back into ground for producers

29
Q

why is only 10% of biomass is passed downfood chains

A

organisms don’t eat every part of the organism its consuming

feel that they do eat might not be absorbed as they can’t break it down so it’s egested as faeces

most of the nutrients that animals absorb are used to release energy through respiration so biomass gets released as waste products rather than being stored within the organism

30
Q

How do you calculate efficiency of biomass transfer?

A

biomass transferred to next level/ biomass that was available at previous level
x answer by 100
