Resp Flashcards
what are the surface markings of the right upper lobe
under rib 1-4
what are the surface markings of the right middle lobe
under rib 4-6
what are the surface markings of the right lower lobe
under rib 5-7
what are the surface markings of the left upper lobe
under rib 1-6
what are the surface markings of the left lower lobe
under rib 5-7
describe the surface markings of the horizontal fissure
on the right lung
from the 4th costal cartilage following the 4th rib on the right to meet the oblique fissure in the mid axillary line
describe the surface markings of the oblique fissure
from lung border at level of T3 posteriorly to lower border of lung at 6th costal cartilage anteriorly
runs around the lateral thoracic wall
closely follows medial border of scapula when arm is raised
describe the surface markings of the parietal pleura of the right lung
apex is in the root of the neck above the medial 1/3 of the clavicle
just right of midline from 2nd CC to 6th CC
MCL at level of 8th rib
MAL at level of 10th rib
scapular line crossing 12th rib
transverse process of T1 vertebra
describe the surface markings of the parietal pleura of the left lung
apex is in the root of the neck above the medial 1/3 of the clavicle
just left of midline from 2nd CC to 4th CC
deviates left to allow for cardiac notch
MCL at level of 8th rib
MAL at level of 10th rib
scapular line crossing 12th rib
transverse process of L1 vertebra
what are the surface markings of the inferior margin of the visceral pleura
6th rib at MCL
8th rib at MAL
10th rib at scapular line
covers the lung so is the same as lung borders
what are the borders of the triangle of safety
posterior: anterior margin of latissimus dorsi
anterior: posterior border of pectoralis major
inferior: 4th ICS
apex: below the axilla
what are the surface markings of the left mediastinal pleura
mediastinal pleura = parietal pleura in mediastinum
projects just above 1st CC, extends into neck above medial 1/3rd of clavicle
runs down sternum to level of 4th CC, deviates left by 2-3cm to allow for cardiac notch
what are the surface markings of the right mediastinal pleura
mediastinal pleura = parietal pleura in mediastinum
projects just above 1st CC, extends into neck above medial 1/3rd of clavicle
runs down sternum to level of 6th CC
