More independant
Internals and resisting social influence
Internals seek information so den’t rely on other’s opinions
More achievement oriented (spector found a relationship between internals and leadership- more goal orientated)
Can resist coercion from others (in a prisoners of war scenario internals were better at resisting)
Social support doesn’t have to be valid to be effective
Allen and Levine- thick glasses in ASCH experiment- less conformity- social support still has an effect. It is so strong that we just need a little bit of social support.
Social support real world support
Rosenstrasse protest (1943)- the men were freed (2000 jewish men)
Locus of control research support
Holland found Milgram study 37% of internals and 23% of externals were defiant
Locus of control is related to NSI not ISI
Spector found in 157 students there was a correlation between NSI and LOC but not LOC and ISI
