Minority influence Flashcards
what are the three key factors
Consistance, commitment, flexibility
Procedure of the Moscovici study
6 pps (2 confederates) 36 blue slides, said they were green the whole time or 2/3rds of the time.
Results of the Moscovici study
Consistant- 8.42%
Inconsistant- 1.25%
What is the snow ball effect
Over time more people convert and it spreads until they become the majority.
Martin Et al research into deeper processing
-One grouo heard a majority view and were exposed to a minority view, the other group had the reverse.
-The group who heard the minority view were less likely to change their view- suggests deeper processing.
Artificial research
Moscovici doesn’t mimic real world, there was nobody’s lives at stake e.g Jury Duty.
Group dynamics are not like the real world with status so lacks external validity.
Research support for consistancy
Wood et al- metaanalysis of 100 similar studies and found consistant minorities were the most successful,
Minority influence is powerful
When asked to write down privately in the Moscovici study they still conformed to the minority view so they have internalised.
