Research Methods: KT 166 Flashcards
Experimental Methods
Experimental Method
Involved manipulation of an IV to measure the effect on the DV
Aim
A general statement of what the researcher intends to investigate (the purpose)
Hypothesis
A clear , precise, testable statement that states the relationship between the variables to be investigated.
Directional Hypothesis
States the direction of the difference or relationship
Non-Directional Hypothesis
Does not state the direction
Variables
Any ‘thing’ that can vary or change within and investigation.
Generally used to determine the changes in another thing.
DV
Variable that is measured by the researcher. Any effect of the DV should be caused by IV
IV
Some aspect of the experiment that is manipulated by the researcher to see the effect of the DV
Operationalisation
Clearly defining variables in terms of how they can be measured.
