Psychodynamic: KT Flashcards
Psychodynamic approach
Perspective that describes the dynamics, (most are unconscious), that operate on the mind and direct human behaviour and experience
The unconscious
Part of the mind that we are unware of but continues to direct much of our behaviour
Id
Unconscious
Made up of selfish, aggressive instincts that demand immediate gratification
Ego
‘reality check’ that balances conflicting demands of id and superego
Superego
Moralistic part of our personality which represents the ideal self: how we ought to be
Defence Mechanisms
Unconscious strategies that the ego uses to manage conflict between id and superego
Psychosexual Stages
5 development stages that all children pass through.
At each stage, there is a conflict, the outcome of which determines future development
