Unstructured Interview
-Questions are not prepared before the interview (informal conversation)
Strengths Unstructured
- provide higher level rapport
- Unexpected insights

-Requires a highly trained interviewer
Semi Structured Interview
Mix of structured topics areas and ability to develop in original ways
Strengths of Semi
- Flexibility allows for new ideas to develop
- Answers to set questions allow analysis of responses
Limitation of Semi
-Requires a trained interviewer
Focus Group
Face to Face verbal data exchange, except surrounding a group, based on open questions (unstructured)
Why Focus Groups
Used for understanding collective viewpoints and meanings
Strengths of focus
-Garner more data and info in comparison to individual interview
Limitations of Focus
- Social Desirability–> individuals respond in a way deemed acceptable
- Low Validity
