Define a questionnaire
It is a research method that involves asking questions that are usually written down. Questions are there to gain information from the participants.
Define an interview
It is a research method that uses verbal questions that are directly asked to the participant, gaining information on the participant.
What are the 4 different types of questionnaires?
- Likert scales
- Rating scales
- Open questions
- Closed questions
Define a Likert scale questionnaire
Questions that aim to ask the participant whether they like or dislike something.
Define a Rating scale questionnaire
Questions that requires the participants to answer on a numerical scale that is provided to them.
Define Open question questionnaires
Questions that allow the participants to give detailed answers without any restrictions
Define Closed question questionnaires
Questions that allow the participants to give short stated answers. There is no opportunity to expand on their answers.
What are the 3 types of interviews?
- Structured Interview
- Semi-structured Interview
- Unstructured Interview
Define a Structured Interview
an interview where questions are asked in a fixed order, they are mostly scripted. Consistency of the interviewer is required (their voice or posture, etc.) Interview is highly standardised.
Define a Semi-structured Interview
Interview with a list of fixed questions, but interviewer is allowed to add more questions if there is a need to clarify / get more details on the answers.
Define an Unstructured Interview
Interview where most of the questions rely on the interviewee’s answers. Mostly there is a list of topics provided that should be covered in the interview.
