RESEARCH METHODS -1.13 Reliability Flashcards
Define Reliability
The extent to which the procedure, task / measure is consistent
Define Internal Reliability
If the procedures are standardised for all participants to experience the same thing
Define External Reliability
Where the procedure’s results can be replicated from time to time and consistent results are gained
Define Inter-Rater/Inter-Observer Reliability
Where two researchers interpret qualitative responses which will produce the same records from the same raw data
What are the 2 methods with which Reliability can be tested?
- Split-Half Method
2. Test-Retest Method
Define the Split-Half Method of testing for Reliability
Here the results of the first half of the questionnaire/interview is the same as the results of the second half
(the questions in both halves are presented in a different manner)
Define the Test-Retest Method of testing for Reliability
Consistency of the test/task is measured by using it twice then the results are compared to test similarity
