RESEARCH METHODS - 1.14 Data Analysis Flashcards
Define the Measures of Central Tendency
the mathematical way to find out the typical average score from a data set
What are the Measures of Central Tendency?
- Mean
- Median
- Mode
Define Mean
Calculated by adding all scores in data set then dividing them by the amount of scores in the data set
Define Median
The middle score of the data set when it is ranked in ascending order
Define Mode
The score that appears most frequently in the data set
Define the Measures of Spread
Mathematical way describing the variation / spread within a data set
What are the Measures of Spread?
- Range
2. Standard Deviation
Define Range
Difference between the largest and smallest values with an addition of 1
Define Standard Deviation
A calculation of the average difference between each score and the mean of the data set
Define Normal Distribution
A variable that is spread out evenly which is symmetrical about the mean, median and mode
Define Bar Charts
Graphs used for data in discrete categories and total / average costs
Define Histograms
Graph used to illustrate continuous data
Define Scatter Graph
Data is displayed on graph from a correlational analysis
