Question 1

Describe the method.

Answer 1

1) Wash hands or wear gloves
2) Use a marker to divide the plate into 4/5 sections
3) Using sterile forceps place a disc of each antiseptic solution into its labelled section of the agar
4) Place used forceps into disinfectant
5) Seal plate with tape, ensuring there is a gap, so oxygen can enter and condensation can escape
6) Place plate upside down and incubate for 3 or 4 days
7) Place any used equipment in beaker of disinfecctant

Question 2

Describe how the sample would be analysed.

Answer 2

1) Remove agar plate and seal around edge with adhesive tape
2) Measure diameter of the clear zone around each disc and record
3) record again at 90^0 to first measurement and record
4) Calculate mean diameter and record
