A
- Place a small amount of food onto a spotting tile
- Add two drops of IODINE solution
- If the food turns BLUE or BLACK, starch is PRESENT
If it REMAINS BROWN starch is NOT PRESENT

What are the steps for testing for GLUCOSE?
A
- Place a small amount of food in a boiling tube
- Add distilled water
- Add ten drops of benedict’s solution
- Heat in a water bath for 10 minutes
- If it turns ORANGE or GREEN, GLUCOSE IS PRESENT
If it REMAINS BLUE, no glucose is present

What are the steps for testing for PROTEIN?
A
- Place a small amount of food in a boiling tube
- Add distilled water
- Add 10 drops of biuret solution
- If it turns LILAC, PROTEIN IS PRESENT
If it REMAINS BLUE, protein IS NOT PRESENT

A
- Place a small amount of food in a boiling tube
- Add 10cm of distilled water
- Shake boiling tube
- If OIL IS PRESENT, an EMULSION WILL FORM
If not, the water will TURN CLOUDY
