Mammography.
Screening mammography is a specific type of breast imaging that uses low-dose x-rays to detect cancer early - before women experience symptoms - when it is most treatable.
Tamoxifen.
The oldest and most-prescribed selective oestrogen receptor modulator. It can be used to reduce breast cancer risk in women, who haven’t been diagnosed but are at a higher-than-average risk for the disease.
Endometriosis.
A condition that is common in women of reproductive age in which the tissue lining the uterus is found outside the uterus, resulting in pain and infertility.
Gardasil.
A vaccine used to prevent anal, vaginal and vulval cancer caused by human papillomavirus types 16 and 18 and genital warts caused by HPV types 6 and 11.
Ovarian Cancer.
Cancer that forms in tissues of the ovary. Most ovarian cancers are either ovarian epithelial cancers (cancer that begins in the cells on the surface of the ovary) or malignant germ cell tumours (cancer that begins in egg cells)
Premenstrual Syndrome.
Refers to the range of physical and emotional symptoms that some women experience in the lead up to menstruation, that impact on quality of life
Fibroids.
Non-cancerous tumours that grow in the uterus during child-bearing years.
Polyps.
A polyp is a projecting growth of tissue from a surface in the body, usually a mucous membrane. Polyps can develop in the colon and rectum, ear canal, cervix, stomach, nose, uterus, throat and bladder.
Menarche.
The commencement of the menstrual cycle
Menorrhagia.
Menstrual periods with abnormally heavy or prolonged bleeding.
Metorrhagia.
Uterine bleeding at irregular intervals particularly between the expected menstrual periods.
Hydrocoele.
A condition in which serious fluid accumulates in a body cavity such as the testes.
Phimosis.
A condition in which the foreskin of the penis is too tight to be pulled back.
Paraphimosis.
A condition in which the foreskin becomes trapped behind the glans penis and cannot return to its normal placed position
Priapism.
A painful condition in which the penis maintains an erection in the absence of physical and psychological stimulation.
