Reproductive System Flashcards
What holds the testes and why?
scrotum hold the testes away from the body to lower the temp of the sperm
What is responsible for producing the fluids necessary for lubricating and nourishing the sperm?
prostate and seminal vesicles
What is the path in which sperm is ejected?
vas deferens, urethra, penis

What is the opening to the uterus?
cervix
What connect the uterus to the ovaries?
Fallopian tubes
What causes the egg to be released and travel down the Fallopian tubes to the uterus?
hormone changes (estrogen and lutenizing hormone)
Where does fertilization occur?
fallopian tubes
What happens when an egg is fertilized?
the egg embeds itself in the uterine wall (endometrium) and produces a placenta that nourishes the fetus
What part of the female reproductive system produces estrogen?
ovaries
When estrogen is produced what happens in the reproductive system?
the egg matures in the ovary’s Graafian follicle and the endometrium thickens
What causes and egg to be released?
a surge in luteinizing hormone from the pituitary
When the Graafian follicle empties what happens?
it is now called the corpus luteum and produces large amounts of progesterone to prepare the endometrium for implantation of the fertilized egg
