Anatomy and Physiology Cardiovascular System Flashcards
What is the pulmonary loop?
deoxygenated blood flows from the right ventricle to the lungs then the oxygenated blood flows to the left atrium
What is the systemic loop?
oxygenated blood comes from the left ventricle and deoxygenated blood flows to the right atrium
What does systole mean?
contraction
What does diastole mean?
relaxation
What is the circulatory system composed of?
it is a double loop system consisting of thick walled arteries that transport blood away from the heart and thin walled veins that transport blood to the heart, and capillaries made of endothelium that connect arteries to veins
Describe the Lub sound of the heart?
ventricles contract (systole) causing the atrioventricular valves (mitral and tricuspid) to close causing the empty ventricles to be filled with blood pushed out during atrial systole
Describe the Dub sound of the heart?
semilunar valves in the aorta and pulmonary arteries close preventing blood from falling back into the ventricles
What controls contractions ?
sinoatrial node (pacemaker) located at the top of the heart
What is a property of cardiac cells?
generation of electrical impulses because the cells generate electricity in the sinoatrial node
What blood component levels would be expected to increase following vaccination?
antibodies
