Scrotum

○ Produce both sperm (exocrine) and testosterone (endocrine)
○ In early life testes have to travel down the gubernaculum pass through the inguinal rings
Epididymis
allow for the maturing of sperm (48hrs to mature)
Efferent ductules
lead out of testis
Ductus deferens or vas deferens
passes from epididymis into abdominal cavity
Ejaculatory duct
joins ductus and seminal vesicle and end at urethra with prostate gland
Urethra in Male reproductive System
both the movement of urine our of the body and ejaculate
Seminal vesicle
produces 60% of semen, secretes fibrinogen, and high pH
Prostate gland
30% of sperm, thin, milky secretion, high pH, contains clotting factors and fibrinolysin
Bulbourethral gland
5% of sperm, mucous secretion (pre ejaculate), helps neutralize pH of vagina
Ligaments of the Uterus
Broad, round, uterosacral ligaments
Holds the uterus in place
Ovary
oogenesis production of the eggs
Fallopian tube
egg from ovary to uterus
○ Fimbriae: long thin processes that moves the egg from ovary to the ampulla
○ Ampulla: site of fertilization of the egg
3 layers of the Uterus
○ Perimetrium: protects
○ Myometrium: baby delivery
○ Endometrium: functional layer, replaced monthly, engorged in blood
Vagina
allows menstrual flow and childbirth, and allow penetration
Hymen covers vaginal opening
