Reproductive Strategies Flashcards
Asexual reproduction..
Occurs between one individual to produce an offspring.
Types of asexual reproduction include..
- Binary fission
- Spores
- Vegetative reproduction
- parthenogenesis
- fragmentation
- budding
Difference between Mitosis and binary fission..
Binary fission: Mostly prokaryotes, reproduction, no spindle, different stages.
Mitosis: Eukaryotes, spindle, growth and repairment of tissue, different stages.
What is Budding..
An organism growing from another bud.. Breaking off the adult bud then producing another bud.
What is Fragmentation…
Organisms produced by breaking into pieces, regenerates missing bits and can occur deliberately due to damage.
What is vegetation propagation…***
Only in plants and consists of merging 2 plants together to reproduce another individual.
Spores…
Are cells which can grow into a new plant.. produced by meiosis.
