Cell growth, death, cycle and differentiation Flashcards
What is Binary Fission?
The division of prokaryote chromosomes.
What happens in Binary Fission?
Step 1: Division imitation
Step 2 and 3: Duplication
Step 4: Separation of materials in cell
Step 5: cell wall splits the middle of the parent cell
Step 6: Daughter cells form
Traits of Eukaryote chromosomes..
They are linear in shape and have spindle fibers attached to the centromere.
What are the ends of eukaryote chromosomes called?
Telomeres.
Parts of an eukaryote chromosome…
- Telomere
- Centromere
- chromatids
- kinetochore
What areas of a chromosome can the centromere appear in?
- The middle
- Between the middle and the end
- Close to the end
- The end
Eukaryote Cell cycle Phases…
G1, S (Synthesize), G2, M (Metaphase).
What is the G1 Phase of the cell cycle?
The cell growth phase where organelles and proteins are made.
What is the S Phase of the cell cycle?
The making of new chromosomes in DNA replication.
What is the G2 Phase of the cell cycle?
The cell gets assessed and prepared for mitosis.
What is the Mitosis phase of the cell cycle?
The final stage where the cell splits apart.
Where are the cell checkpoints in the cell cycle?
There is a checkpoint in the G1 phase, G2 phase and the M phase.
What is are the steps of mitosis in the M phase?
Early Prophase, Late prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase.
What is the step at the end of the cell cycle and mitosis?
Cytokinesis.
What is cytokinesis?
The process of a new nuclear membrane forming and dividing in the middle of the cytoplasm creating 2 new daughter cells.
